Renters Beware
At the spot where my bedroom wall meets the window, there was a lot of sound pollution from my neighbors, to the point where it sounds like my neighbors in their living room are inside my bedroom. This is problematic because I tend to be in bed well before 10PM, but my neighbors have been up until 2AM talking loudly/yelling and playing bass-heavy music. I'm unsure if this is a design flaw of the unit, though certainly is partially related to my neighbors being loud, but either way I wouldn't... expect to face this issue in a premium apartment community. To make matters worse, my neighbors seem to smoke weed throughout the day and into the evening (not permitted in JBG buildings), which leaks into the hallway and into my unit. I complained to the front desk agent and management office multiple times about my neighbor's behavior (since it violates the community/lease guidelines), but have yet to see an improvement. I wouldn't expect to deal with college dorm type activity in a community like 901W.
Due to the ongoing issues with the neighbors and my original unit, 901W was kind enough to let me transfer into a new unit. Unfortunately, the new unit ended up being plagued with many of the same problems as the old one.
Additionally, when I went online to show a friend a 901W unit, I realized JBG had reduced the market price for my unit by $525 a month, or over $6,300 for a 12 month lease. Since I was contractually still within my 30 day move in guarantee, I asked JBG if they would match my lease with the new market price. I was told that I could either move out of 901W entirely using the 30 day move in guarantee, or re-sign a new lease in a different unit taking advantage of the new market rate, but not in any scenario, could the new market rate for my unit be applied to my current unit.??
Especially because 901W has removed the 30 day move in guarantee that I was afforded, potential renters should tread carefully. Not only are you likely to share my same experience, but you won't have the opportunity to move in with the piece of mind that if things don't go as expected (which, from speaking with residents that have had similar experiences, they likely will for you too), you're contractually stuck for 12 months. If this doesn't scare you away, then JBG's quality control issues or bad customer service should.
