Don't Move Here!

Tons of issues! I was moving from out of state so had to do everything online. Seemed great. Moved in, and immediately noticed how unhappy the front desk staff was. They changed concierges at least 5 times during my stay because they treated them so poorly - expect them to be there more than 8 hours, don't give proper breaks, and don't have security for the overnight staff. The police had to be called many times, and people removed from the building! They advertise that they have a parking... garage, but don't tell you it's not located on the property and is actually shared with a Safeway and owned by another company. I rented a month in the garage for a family member to stay with me, and her soft top was broken into and damaged - there's no security and open public access to the garage. They only allow one car per unit, so you can't have a friend over and they park in your spot. When the month was over, they tried to tell me there was a 2 month minimum! I had to fight for weeks to get my money for the second month back with their HR. Additionally, there is roach and rat poison everywhere. They have 4 elevators and they are ALWAYS down. Every time there is a thunder storm, the fire alarm goes off. I've had to listen to it for over 2 hours straight and had to leave my remote job early because I couldn't converse with my clients on Zoom. I lived on the 11th floor and had to walk down the stairs with animals multiple times over this. They advertise a dog park but it's only in one of the buildings and they won't give you a key to be able to access it freely. There is a great patch of grass out front, but unfortunately always covered in toxic pesticide flags so the dogs cant be on it. My packages were lost more than once due to the disorganization of the package room and other tenants getting my orders instead. They have a great gym but unfortunately the AC goes out and make it impossible to work out in there. Gave them a 30 day notice to vacate - it says it must be 60 in the lease so they charged me an extra month. Whatever. But what it doesn't say in the lease or anywhere, is that there's also a 2 month penalty for breaking the lease. So to move out, I was charged 3 extra months (6600). They also kept my deposit (500). And at the end, even though I had already made two payments on the move out amount, they closed my account and sent it to collections. So rude! Terrible experience.

Bad leasing company

My roommate and I lived in the Leo for a year. It is a good location and the building is relatively safe. The leasing company (Bernstein) is a nightmare though. The employees are friendly, but the company itself has nothing together. Won't return your calls/emails, sent lease renewal notice 4 months late, sent rent referral bonus 8 months late... I once thought someone had broken into my unit (even called 911), and emailed/called management repeatedly about it, they never called back still to... this day. The elevator constantly smells like weed and there is no service in the building. Amenities are nice and maintenance team is amazing.

Leasing Office is Awful!

The absolute worst leasing experience I've ever had! I've been trying to lease this apartment for about a month. For some reason my application is being held up in the system and it directs me to speak to the property manager. I meet all credit and income requirements. I've been calling and leaving messages and emailing the leasing department and cannot get any help- FOR A MONTH! I was told by staff, the property manager would be in Monday. Monday, I took off of work and went to appear in... person. No property manager, no leasing agent. I was told by the concierge, the manager would be in Wednesday. Today is Wednesday. I call at 9am. No property manager. She isn't expected to be in all week. I was transferred to the assistant property manager and of course, she didn't answer the phone. Then I checked the website, and the apartment I've been trying to lease is no longer available. Terrible customer service. Waste of my time.

Location and Actual Units are Great...beware the remote opperated lights

Been living at the Lex building for a little bit and I am truly enjoying it. Pricing is alright (I don't like city prices), the actual unit feels fresh with lots of light and modern touches. The building hallways are very dark and moody, but that doesn't bother me too much. 24/7 package pickup from the front desk, although it could take hours for them to check it in. The Lex building gym has most (if not all) of its machinery working, and the rooftop amenities are a nice treat. No pet rent for... cats is awesome in my case.

My one BIG gripe is the thin walls, I can hear my neighbors dog bark 24/7, and the bedrooms have a remote for the light/fan (which I love) but since the walls are so thin, if your neighbor turns their light on at 3 am...they often turn yours on too. Very annoying.

The location is great with safeway, cvs, and the metro right here. Food options are somewhat limited but they are good. It is a quieter area of DC, very residental feel. There is a farmer's market every saturday and a community event night every other friday that is DIRECTLY outside.

Could Be Better, Could Be Worse

My experience wasn’t the best, which is disappointing because I looked forward to touring. My partner and I recently had a tour, and the first issue was no prospective tenant parking. We had to find street parking which, while not the worst, wasn’t close to the buildings. We ended up parking closer to the Lex building, so we stopped in there to start the tour. Our guide was a man named James who was concierge in Lex. He isn’t a leasing agent so he didn’t have to give us a tour, but was kind... enough to do so and was very knowledgeable about the property. He was the highlight of this experience. After touring Lex we walked over to Leo to see those units, as we were informed the units and amenities in that building did differ in some ways. However, the desk staff there were surprisingly rude. We were told that since we started the tour at Lex and not at Leo we couldn’t have a tour of Leo’s building. When the man at the desk informed a woman in the back that we were here for a tour, she (loudly) huffed, rolled her eyes, and made a snarky comment. When she approached us she stated that a tour isn’t necessary because the two buildings are “exactly the same” from amenities to units. This was definitely not true, since my partner insisted on at least viewing the amenities which were (not surprising) different once shown to us. We were also told that there were differences between units in both buildings, so I don’t know who was telling the truth there. She wouldn’t allow us to tour a unit which was frustrating, and at this point I was just happy to leave. Lex & Leo has beautiful apartments and a great location, but unfortunately that experience at the Leo building left us deciding to cross this property off our list.
