Great Apartment!
The eaves La Mesa complex is very conveniently located, less than a 5 minute walk to a San Diego Trolley stop, major California and interstate roadways, and a decently sized outdoor mall with lots of restaurants and shopping. The grounds themselves are fairly well maintained, with lots of trees, bushes, and flowering plants and some small tracts of grass. Parking can be a bit of a challenge if you have more than one vehicle or if you get a lot of visitors, but it isn't too bad if you don't mind... a little walk. The exterior areas and building stairways are fairly well lit, and I have never felt unsafe walking around at night.
The insides of the buildings are a little dated, but there is a good amount of space and the floor plans are intuitively designed. The ceilings are not too low, at least in our unit (something we taller people noticed a lot in our apartment search). The appliances are basic but for the most part, they get the job done. This might seem like a strange complaint, but the sink in the kitchen is too shallow and the faucet is not retractable, which makes thoroughly washing dishes difficult (I'm not sure if all units have the same sink set up and hardware). That wouldn't be too problematic, but the dishwasher is the lowest grade possible and doesn't clean much, so hand washing tends to be a necessity. Again, I'm not sure if that is unique to the unit of not.
The balcony is huge, so if you enjoy sitting outside, you could setup a hammock or a table and chairs out there if you wanted. I'm not sure of the complex's policy on the subject, but you could even have the space to do small to medium sized projects on the patio.
I only mention these last two points because I moved here from out of state and did all of my apartment shopping for this complex online: there are not ceiling fans in the bedrooms and the management will not allow you to install them. I erroneously assumed that there were fans in the bedrooms because I saw a picture of one in one of the photographs that the complex posted online. Another thing is that the floor plan image that was associated with my unit on the website showed a fireplace, but my unit does not actually have one. always be sure to ask if something like that is a deal maker or breaker for you!
In summary, while there are some things that I might change about the complex and my unit in particular, overall, I've been very happy with my experiences both with the property, the neighbors, and management.
