Had no problems until I tried to leave. Was lied to and squeezed out of an extra month's rent.
I very much enjoyed living in this property. The apartments are some of the nicest in the area and the amenities are very good.
That said, I would encourage anyone who lives here to record phone calls they have with the office and take everything in the lease literally, regardless of what you are told. About two months before my lease was scheduled to end, I received a phone call from the office asking if I intended to renew. I explained that I was moving to a different state and would not be... renewing. I was told that they were sorry to see me go, and that they would handle the rest of the process. I asked if I needed to do anything and was told no.
Then, about a month later, I received another call asking if I was going to renew. I explained that I had already given notice and was told to send over a written notice. Shortly after sending that email, I received another call from the office saying that they had made a mistake, and that I was all set to move out. I again asked them to let me know if any further steps were necessary.
Then, days before I move out, I learn that they intend to charge me rent for more than 5 weeks after I will have vacated the apartment. I attempted to dispute this and cite the lease's early move out fee, which I would have preferred to pay if I had to pay something. Multiple emails went unanswered, and the specific question about the early move out fee remains largely unanswered. I was merely told they could not honor that request.
For the first time since I have been here I felt like the staff were extremely rude and uncompromising. My impression was they believed I was lying. There has been so much turnover with the staff in recent months that I do not think the people I originally spoke with even work here anymore.
I do not know whether someone made a mistake, or whether I was intentionally misled on those phone calls into believing that they had filed my notice, presumably in order to squeeze money out of me. The result is the same, I am now paying somewhere around $2,000 more than I anticipated just to leave.
Read the lease very carefully and do everything it says to the letter of the lease, even if you are told by the staff on multiple occasions that you do not have to.
