Decent apartment, but do consider...
The apartments are decent. I like the layouts they have provided and the kitchen is probably one of the best out of the previous apartments I have lived in. The fact that the clubhouse is open 24/7 is nice, and the staff seem friendly. However, here's what you have to look out for and consider:
1. This apartment complex boasts an "open air fitness center", but I have never seen the fitness center's garage doors open. It's the same as any other fitness center. If you're interested in the bikes,... the seats are pretty uncomfortable. They do have two treadmills, some machines and free weights.
2. Construction makes it difficult to get in and out. There's two ways in, and they are both annoying. You can turn into the community from 42, or you can take a long windy path from Glen Laurel. The turn from 42 is partially on gravel, and sometimes makes it dangerous for a turn. I have definitely had my car jerk around trying to get in. The long windy path is rocky, takes longer, and has pedestrians frequently walking on it.
3. There's not really a place for children to play, so they end up playing in the parking lot. Sometimes they throw footballs around and hit people's cars. They're just kids and sometimes they don't know any better, but they shouldn't be playing in a parking lot. It'd be great if there was a space/playground dedicated for children's play.
4. Dog poop. There's some serious issues here with dog poop. I parked in front of the entrance to my apartment, grabbed all of my groceries, and walked on the sidewalk straight home. I felt something funny on my shoe, and looked. There was dog poop on it, from the sidewalk.
Honestly, I feel like this is a pervasive issue that hasn't been dealt with at all. There's a $50 fine for leaving poop, but no poo prints program or way to really enforce this unless you catch them in the act. The dog owners are not being held accountable, so they feel free to leave the biohazardous waste. On any given day, if you walk around the entire complex and the small islands of grass in the parking lot, you'll find 5+ piles of poop. This is not all dog owners. I see some people pick up after their dogs, and I've heard from a dog owner that they don't like that the waste station for their dogs is so far away from their complex. I have seen many dogs around but there are only 3 pet waste stations and there has even been overflow from the bins.

Hello, We certainly appreciate your honest and detailed review. We do our best here at Pines at Glen Laurel to limit the progression of pet waste, since this review has been posted, we have installed more pet waste stations around the community, and... we are in the process of ordering pick up bag holsters that are attachable to leashes to assist in providing this equipment for pet owners. We do always encourage pet owners to "say something, if you see something" so we can attempt to locate the pet owner, or the pet to enforce our Pet Waste Pick Up Policy. We have addressed many pet owners during our daily inspections of the community as well. We do love our "open air fitness room" but with the weather in North Carolina, of course, the open air feature is dependent on weather, which could limit us from utilizing this, especially when it is too hot, or too cold depending on the time of the year. Due to liability concerns, we cannot leave the garage doors open in the gym after business hours. If you're ever utilizing this space while we are open, we will be more than happy to open the gym doors for you to enjoy! As for the highway construction, the NCDOT does regulate most of that appearing on Highway 42, but current day - it appears that they are just about finished with that, and the gravel has since been replaced with nice paving. We do believe that the entryway from Glen Laurel and Briarcliff Road is easier for everyone to use, since Highway 42 can become somewhat congested at times. We understand with the development of the retail/shopping/dining and the progression of that becoming completed, this will ease that concern. There will also be a 3rd entryway to our community which will also come out to Highway 42 which should be completed soon. Our Pines Playground is also underway, we have the playground equipment delivered, and we are in the process of installing and testing the equipment, we are very excited to have this new feature! As always, we thank you for being a valued Pines resident, and we always love to hear from you. If you have any further concerns you would like to address with us in the office, We are happy to speak with you.
