miserable management
I've lived in a lot of apartments over the last 40 years, but never have I had such a miserable experience with apartment managers. Rather than treat residents as valued customers, in my opinion they think of their role as akin to prison guards or junior high school assistant principles. Horrible customer relations. Always adversarial. Clients appear to be the enemy. At first I thought they were trying to get me to move out, but I have since learned that many people share my sentiments.
One... of the root problems, I feel, is that managers employ interfacing technologies that they barely seem to understand not in an effort to improve communication but rather as a barrier to effective communication. Example. There is an app that we use for almost all interface with management including maintenance requests. On Dec 20 I went to the management office and made three maintenance requests. They refused to take the request directly from me but insisted that I put the request in their app. So I did. Sitting directly in front of them. In the first week of January the maintenance request had not been assigned so I spoke to one of the managers and she said it would be taken care of it. By January 26 it had still not been assigned. I went to the office and asked why my apartment had not been repaired. The managers said that they had not received the request in their app. So I showed them the app on my phone and asked if I had entered the request incorrectly. They said they didn't know what the problem was but somehow they still considered it my fault. There was no apology, no attempt to say they were sorry for the inconvenience. It was my fault that my apartment hadn't been fixed and that was that.
This is just one example of an endless string of complaints that I have about the attitude of management here. It is, in my opinion, hostile.
I would move out at the end of the lease if it wasn't such an epic hassle to move everything and find a new apartment. I suspect a lot of people feel this way. Like prisoners in their own homes, with management behaving more like prison guards than people wishing to make us happy.
It is all the more puzzling because the previous managers were fantastic. I don't know if corporate replaced the previous management team because they deliberately wanted to create a hostile environment or not. It is a mystery to me.
