Old rundown buildings become new rundown apartments.
TL:DR The building is falling apart and the management is incompetent.
Pros:
Location is good
Prices are more or less at market rates for the location
Ramp makes moving in (and out) easier with a dolly
Cons:
Roof has leaked on and off for a year and half. They keep patching it, but the patches never hold for very long. Water spots on my ceiling the entire time I've lived here. Last time it leaked I filled four buckets with water. Any time that much water gets to drywall it's going to cause... mold to start to grow. I've told management about this but they don't care. Won't even have it tested for mold.
The building's old fire alarms are still in place, and I know that may sound like a good thing, but since the roof leaks, water has gotten in to the electrical system and set off the alarms several times. Since the building used to be a school, this means several fire departments show up and we eventually have to wait for one of the maintenance workers to come over with a code to shut it off. Last time it went off for several hours before he showed up with the code.
Kitchen lights begin flickering every month or so. Maintenance comes in and replaces bulbs. They last for another month or so. Rinse and repeat.
The building has Latch electronic locks on all of the doors which is horribly inconvenient. Instead of using a key fob you have to download an app on your smartphone to use. The app is buggy and slow. You can't get packages delivered with any regularity because the delivery drivers can't get in the building.
And never, ever forget your phone or let its battery run dry. My neighbor had to break the window of her apartment to get into it after her phone went dead while she was out one night. She borrowed her uber driver's phone to call emergency maintenance but they didn't respond and her uber finally had to kick her out after waiting with her for 45 minutes. Maintenance finally did show up about three hours after she called.
All of my dealings with management have been awful. They send passive aggressive emails threatening to take all of our bicycles and threatening to stop offering recycling services. They don't return phone calls. They don't care if you live there or if you don't. They only wan your money, and they'll do whatever they can to milk you out of every penny they can.
This place is awful. Don't live here. Don't live anywhere managed by Core Redevelopment. You can find a better place for the same price elsewhere.
