TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT

Do not lease with Matthews!!!! These apartments are cute inside, but the management is terrible, since I moved here, the elevators are not working and have been down for four consecutive days, they say they fixed it and the next week they aren't working again. It sucks because it's not like you don't need the elevators, it's an apartment of 10 floors... The stairs you have to take to get to your apartment is very dirty, and full of dust, it's so hard to breath in the stairs.

If you are...
thinking of moving here, think twice.

Live somewhere else

I would give 0 stars if I could. Where do I start? I’d recommend living somewhere else if you’re considering renting at this apartment building.

1. READ THE LEASE! The lease is predatory. It auto-renews and stipulates that tenants are responsible for snow removal, among other things.
2. While it may look nice in pictures, it’s shoddily put together. Our bedroom door was hung crookedly and didn’t close when we moved in. When maintenance “fixed” it, it was still hung crookedly and barely shuts.
3...
. Communication is abysmal. I have lived in over a dozen different apartments and every single other place I have lived has communicated better than this place.
4. The hallways often smell like weed.
5. SPIDERS are everywhere.
6. Good luck finding parking if you have the audacity to come home after 7pm. There are often no spots available. Guest parking is inconvenient - they have to park either on the street or clear across the East Race in a random parking lot.
7. The elevators randomly don’t work. There have been several occasions where I’ve needed to use the elevator and it hasn’t worked. No communication from the apartment building about the elevator being out of order.
8. There is dog poop everywhere in the grassy area for dog walking. Several dogs run around off leash frequently. We have had scary encounters with other dogs that live in the building and have emailed the apartment staff. No action seemed to be taken.
9. When moving in, I was told there would be a grocery store in the building. While it has recently opened up, I would not shop there. When I visited, the shelves had food that had been expired for weeks.
10. While I didn’t experience this, I spoke with neighbors whose air conditioning hadn’t worked at all in the 2 years they lived in the building.

Great location and brand new everything, management is cheerful

It's a new building and is in a great location near a lot of walkable destinations in the downtown south bend area. The construction is brand new and the views are really one of a kind. Granite stone counters and nice appliances and a balcony you can grill on too.

Management is constantly improving and smoothing out some early 2022 growing pains. The people I've talked to are cheerful and hard working and really want to create a great community atmosphere and local perks. (Like free resident...
symphony/arts tickets and events and neighborhood restaurant discounts).

Don’t waste your money

We have been here 7 months. There isn’t enough space to list all of our problems. The elevators are constantly down. 7 flights of stairs is difficult. We were promised a grocery store and a pool. The building for the pool is falling down. The grocery store is nothing more than a conscience store. The gym is a 20’x20’ building. The door is locked half the time so you can’t access it. The entry doors don’t latch properly so you have to mess with it to make sure it’s closed. Maintenance comes in... unannounced and doesn’t even let you know afterwards. Vacant apartments are rented out on AirBNB! The parking isn’t secured. Very poor quality for new construction. The portal for paying your rent doesn’t work properly so it’s always saying you are late. If we could get away with leaving and not have to pay the remainder of the lease we would be gone in a day. There are much better apartments for your money in this area.
