Beautiful but management is terrible
Worst management I've ever dealt with. We ended up having 5 different move in dates because they forgot to clean and fix up the apartment before we moved in. The ladies in management (birdie and Cindy) are forgetful and loose important pieces of information. The apartment is nice, beautiful but old. Lots of things were broken when we first came in (mirrors, doors, windows) that they said they would fix, a year later it's still broken. And good luck if your unit has carpaet. I've never seen... something look so horrifying before. Overall I wouldn't recommend anyone living here.

Pioneer Apartments (101 Chicago St)
I have lived here for over a year now (in the Pioneer Apartments building pictured). Correction on one below review - not ALL of the units are hardwood floors which I assume will change as time goes on and the wood gets further worn, but my unit is one that is carpet/linoleum and it is very well done. Carpet was in good shape and the unit is tastefully painted and modernized. Great price for the location and space you get and it's in a great part of town where you are within walking... distance to all of downtown Valpo but can take Chicago street straight out of the city bypassing Lincoln Way traffic.
Management is very easy to work with and have been extremely helpful and prompt whenever I've had a problem or needed any maintenance done (lock broke and I was locked inside the apartment my first week there). And, they even do have a limited number of garages that you can rent right outside the building. The only thing that I could see deterring someone from these apartments would be the lack of central air and A/C which can be uncomfortable for the hottest months out of the year. But, window units work great and can be seen all over the building in the summer months.

Pioneer Apartments
I've lived at Pioneer Apartments (204 Franklin Street building) for just over a year now and for the most part I'm very happy! Rent is reasonably priced for the area, especially for the location and space of the units. I reside with a roommate in a two bedroom unit and we both have plenty of space - large bedrooms, large living room, large dining room, and average kitchen and bath areas. Large windows in all of the rooms provide additional light to the overhead lights and fans. The building is... very old - so no elevators, in unit washers and dryers, or crazy modern amenities - but there are some pretty unique features like a built in storage/bar area in the dining room, giant mirror and bay windows in the living room, and a claw foot tub in the bathroom. Community features include a laundry room with three coin operated washers and dryers, connecting porches facing the small yard, and a small parking lot in the back of the building (which can fit about 5-6 cars reasonably - other parking is available on the street). Location is just over a mile from Valparaiso University's campus and a few blocks from downtown shopping, restaurants, and parks. Overall, a great centralized location perfect for individuals, couples, groups, and small families.

Pioneer Apartments
a refurbished historic building, pioneer apartments offer one-of-a-kind units. The apartments are all hardwood floors with huge vaulted ceilings. For the price you pay, you get a ton of space. Conveniently located to the downtown area as well. Biggest let down is the building is not smoke-free, so for tenants who don't smoke, it is a hassle.
