About Blue Plate Artist Lofts

The former home of local favorite Blue Plate Mayonnaise was rehabilitated by HRI Properties and JCH Development into 72 mixed income loft-style apartments designed with a leasing preference for artists. The Blue Plate building is listed on the... National Register of Historic Landmarks and is located in a designated Louisiana Cultural District. It was originally constructed in 1941. Designed by famed New Orleans architect August Perez, it was the first building in New Orleans constructed in the Art Moderne style. The sleek structure is famous for its distinctive smooth, all-white exterior, rounded glass-block corners and the iconic Blue Plate rooftop sign. This development will include on-site, gated parking; a community gallery space; a roof deck; 12.5-13' ceilings; an outdoor patio and landscaped courtyard; a music rehearsal room; a fitness center; business center and bicycle storage. In addition, a number of renewable and sustainable design features will be incorporated into the building to minimize residents' utility costs as well as overall operating costs.

Such a Great Place to Live

The blue plate is such an awesome place to live. This is my second time living here. I lived here 7 years ago and then moved BACK and I'm so so happy I did. Central to literally everything in the city- and unlike many apartment complexes in the city, many old school locals live here. Its not a bunch of tulane frat party kids. Many of the tenants here are actual artists. They offer a certain amount of subsidized apartments for artists and have a strict application process for that. Because of... that the neighbors are a really great eclectic mix of people. If you are a creative person, this is a FANTASTIC place. Each apartment has a space in the hallway to hang your artwork. The building is super diverse which I love. Every apartment there is beautiful. Poured concrete floors, high ceilings. The two bedrooms have en suite bathrooms in each bedroom. Utilities are on solar panels so your utilities are low. Bad weather is a non issue. Beautiful roof to have a drink on. Even a performace space you can rent and sound proof room to practice in. Never seen any kind of bug or rodent there. Ive never felt unsafe there. My mail never gets stolen like every other apartment I've had in the city. The super is awesome and responsive. Property manger is great. I plan on staying here as long as I can. If you are not used to apartment living, that can be a factor. The building isnt loud but its an apartment building and sometimes you hear people. The apartments have great acoustics so if you have a two bedroom, you may hear each other. Its never enough to intrusive or annoying.
