AVOID AT ALL COSTS
AVOID this complex at all costs. I have lived at 1212 East for two months and have had issue after issue. Firstly, the leasing office manager completely forgot that I was scheduled to move in until I called the office to schedule picking up my keys. Additionally, my lease states that I am allowed two key fobs, however, I still have yet to receive the second fob. There is no one consistently at the office during the week (though when I toured the complex it was stated that the office was open... Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm) so packages are often left outside of the building.
Three weeks after I moved in a bird got stuck in the locked closet where my HVAC system is. I spent several hours unable to reach anyone as no one was in the leasing office, the portal was down, and I was not given an emergency number. I was finally able to get a hold of the maintenance manager after calling the company who owns the property and complaining.
Again, I was willing to overlook this as it seemed like a freak accident, until, I got a SECOND bird stuck in my closet. While on a walk with my dog the prior day, I spotted two exterior vents without caps that seemed to be where they were getting in. After the maintenance manager came to remove the bird, I showed him the openings on the side of the building and he agreed that was where they were gaining access. Caps still have not been added to these vents. And nothing has been done to close off my actual unit from this opening.
On Thursday night, a rat ran across my bedroom floor. After (rightfully) freaking out, I canvassed the apartment and found several rat droppings AND mouse droppings. I lived in DC prior to this, so I know what a rat looks like and this one was huge. The only opening the rat could have come through is the one in my HVAC closet that the birds have come through. So, I am now unable to live in my unit because I am terrified of its apparent rodent infestation and the health and safety hazard of living with said rodents. I spoke to several of my neighbors and it turns out that they have also experienced mice and there is a third floor apartment with a terrible mouse infestation, so this is not isolated to my unit. I submitted a maintenance request and have heard nothing. I am extremely disappointed and disgusted and regret my decision to move to 1212 East and strongly recommend that any prospective tenants avoid this property at all costs.
