Old building charm, lazy management company

Now, you can take my review with a grain of salt. I've only lived here for just over two weeks. However, what can clearly be seen is that this building has not been taken care of. The tile in the first floor hallway is old and dirty. The carpet on the hallway of the floor I reside on is old and covered in stains. Everything (and I mean everything) on the walls has been painted over times infinity (yes, even the light switches). I haven't looked at the other floors, or been in any other... apartments, so I can't speak to that. And I know from looking at the fire escape floor plans that we ended up in one of the smaller units of the building, which I can't complain about as I moved here from Michigan sight unseen.

Laundry room in the basement has four each of washers and dryers, however one of each has apparently needed repair since March (it is mid August). The mailboxes are all old and either don't close all the way or just look like they're on the verge of breaking. There is a box for entering a door code, but no way for someone to buzz your apartment if they're here, and the management company questions your intentions when you ask for the code (because supposedly it's only for maintenance use).

Overall, it's fine, I guess, and we have figured out small ways to make it work for two people in a really small apartment. Rent is apparently much lower than the Mount Vernon average price. And the neighborhood is fantastic with many restaurants and stuff nearby.
