Neglected Apartment
Pros:
-Spacious apartments
-Close to central campus
Cons:
-Apartments are FILTHY, it doesn't appear that apartments are cleaned between tenants. Bathroom is particularly dirty. The excuse seems to be that it's an old building, I understand stained tiles but there was literally a pile of some type of brown dirt/gunk in my bathroom. Inches of dust cover radiators, window sills, etc. Kitchen cabinets were not even wiped out- food crumbs, some type of spilled liquid, etc. There are some cabinets in... my apartment I don't even use because there is so much dirt and grime.
-Paint missing from walls. Telling potential tenants that apartments are repainted between tenants is misleading- when I asked about all the walls that were clearly damaged/scuffed/not painted, the apartment explained to me that said that some parts of the apartment are repainted between tenants not necessarily all of the areas of the apartment that need a fresh paint job
-Visible damage in apartments: there appears to be some type of water damage in my dining room and kitchen. What looks like black mold on the kitchen countertop. Maintenance told me there is always a leak somewhere.
-MAJOR electrical problems. I moved into an apartment with an "updated" kitchen that I'm paying extra for each month and for the better part of my first week there, I didn't have electricity in my kitchen. I left numerous voicemails, emails, and messages for management/maintenance. They did respond eventually.
Overall it seems like the apartments are not well maintained on a regular basis so new residents move into what looks like years of neglect. The maintenance staff overall is pretty good, although don't expect a quick response even for an emergency if it's not convenient. They seem to be understaffed. Architecturally, Forest Plaza is a beautiful building but unfortunately management charges high prices but don't seem to invest in the apartments enough to take care of them, even on a basic level.
