I’m disappointed with my experience at Lighthouse Estates II. While the unit itself was fine, the management and amenities leave a lot to be desired.
We were in a renovated, 2-bedroom apartment for 2 years and liked the layout/design - but it always smelled like cigarettes, no matter how much I cleaned/washed. We also invested in an air-purifier, but leaving the windows open was the only way to temporarily hide the smell.
In spring, watch out for the mayflies - for 3 weeks each year, we were... swarmed. Nothing the apartment complex can do about this, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time our first year... It also would have been nice to have the mayflies cleaned up after their season ended, but every year we were left with hundreds of mayflies stuck on our doors & windows.
In fall, there's always an intense spider infestation - we'd walk into fully-spun webs every single day just getting in and out of our apartment. The spiders are the size of quarters and were everywhere, it was a bit horrifying.
The amenities also fall short of expectations. The outdoor pool is fine, but small with limited seating and shade. The gym feels like a closet in size, with limited space/equipment. For the cost of living here, I had expected better facilities.
It's also not the "safest" area - it was normal to see police being called on to the property, but we were on the 2nd floor and didn't have any break-in issues.
Finally, last straw, we didn't appreciate being sent to debt collectors without any prior notice or reason. We are model residents, but we had to break our lease early for a job opportunity. After paying our move-out fee in full, we were told we'd continue to receive utility bills for 2 months out at our new residence - odd, but fine. Next thing we know though, a debt collector calls out of nowhere.
When we called the office, no one answered and their voicemail was full (we expected this because it was the same story all throughout our residency). When we emailed, their response felt... gross? Not sure how to describe it, but I have screenshots for anyone interested in sending me a request.
Overall, it's disappointing to have collections call when we would have paid the bills if they had sent it our way or provided any notification. I hope this review helps anyone considering residency to make an informed decision and that management takes this feedback to improve their communication/experience they provide to future residents.
