Smoke in Apartment
We have lived in this apartment for 1 year and we have had issues with smoke coming into our apartment. We are NON-SMOKERS and we have had over 35 occasions of smoke coming into our apartment. This is apparently a "Non smoking apartment" even though I see numerous tenants smoking on balconys and even in their apartments. I finally figured it out as to what was the cause. The tenant above us was a smoker. He smoked in his bathroom during the winter. We heard his bathroom vent on continuously (Low... sound barrier walls and ceiling). I knocked on his door and asked him if he was smoking in his apartment. He claimed he wasn't. I told him I have a 1 month old daughter and he better not be smoking. After admitting that he lied, he said it would stop and never happen again.
The other issue is that the vent system and light fixture system lets in outside or other air from the apartment into ours. The maintenance guy and landlord claim that they are not connected. How does smoke come into our vents?
If you notice outside the building, there are only a few vent openings. Not every apartment has their own ductwork. Otherwise there would be vent openings in every apartment outside.
Management does not do their job well. They say they will "check on things and call me back" and they don't. When I call them back, they say they are out of town.
Don't live here if you dont want smoke in your apartment.
