Took a chance
I took a chance during the summer of 2021 without even seeing the property in person. Pam (property manager) was kind enough to work with me virtually. I had to move from Texas to MN for work right out of college in about a month and a half and the stress was enormous. I am proud to leave the review for Somerset because of how happy I am with my experience. Although things are not perfect (no where ever is) I am glad I chose this location. Despite the potential bad/scary reviews. And no, I was... not asked/bribed to give this review, nor do I work for the property. I want to provide this so that others looking for a place have a little more recent context that hopefully proves to be helpful.
Pros- Safe area, close enough to fun things and areas so travel isn’t an issue if willing to drive maybe 20-30 mins or less (uptown, downtown, mall of America, ext). Also significantly cheaper than places like uptown, which was great for me since many of my friends lived in that area. So I would just have a 10-15min drive and park some free. Generous parking, friendly and helpful staff (Bill (maintenance) was always cool to talk to and very helpful) good floor plans, nice neighborhood/neighbors (neighbors pull in each other’s trash cans, bring packages to your door if they see it’s outside). Great closet space. Only paid for internet and electricity (not sure if things will change after this post). I should also mention that I only called maintenance twice (Once due to my oven light going out and me not being sure if we were allowed to change it ourselves. And another because I couldn’t figure out how to get my smoke detector from chirping) Both were simple fixes but Bill was more than happy to assist.
Cons- Some minor areas do show some age but nothing major (halls, outer appears in some spots, older appliances), wall ac units, sometimes bugs like spiders, boxelder bugs, and flies will find there way in since the property is so close to the park. I suggest Bengal as this prevents them from getting in and kills pretty instantly.
I’m sure there’s more I could say to hype the place up or nitpick about to go the other direction. But at the end of the day, as a young adult moving to a city across the country right out of college while the world appeared to go up in flames. I’d say this was the best place for me, and I’d be staying here again this year if I wasn’t moving for work again.
Hope this helps, and best of luck with finding a place!
