Solid, affordably priced apartments.
This apartment complex is a great fit for anyone looking for an affordably priced place to live. Management is professional and responsive -- my repair requests were all fixed within the week.
Pros:
- good management
- safe area: no police calls or burglaries that I can remember in three years living there. Maplewood is a safe area.
- conveniently located to blue line metro (5 min walk), multiple grocery stores, and downtown Maplewood.
- well-insulated: This may not be the same for... top-floor units, but for middle and ground-floor units, electric bills rarely top $50 and can be below $20 in spring/fall. The window units can be noisy but they work just fine for climate control in the relatively small units.
Cons:
- thin walls: could hear neighbor's TV through the wall even when it played at normal volume.
- outdated appliances: I didn't live in a "renovated" unit, so this may not be an issue for those units, but the stove/oven was old, small, and consistently overheated. You learn to set the temperature lower than what you actually need.
- issues with hot water: sometimes the shower would turn ice cold. I think this was a problem with my particular unit rather than a building-wide issue.
As for concerns raised in other reviews:
- bug infestation: Mostly disagree; management has pest control spray every few months. I found one dead cockroach when I moved in and didn't see another over the next three years of living in ground floor and second-floor units. There were a few spiders but no more than normal.
- Cigarette smell: Mostly agree; it's faint and you get used to it quickly. Depends on your own sensitivity and likely varies by unit.
- Unfriendly management/neighbors: Disagree. Great management. Neighbors were polite and mostly kept to themselves.
- Not enough parking: Disagree. I sometimes had to park around the building from my unit, but there were always extra spots somewhere in the lot.
