The Avenue Apartment: The Premiere Roach Hotel
**Roaches**: The very first month that I moved into the Avenue, I should have realized I was going to have problems because I had roaches pop up within that first week. It was a mix of German and American Roaches and every now and then, a cockroach the size of your thumb. And that is no exaggeration. By the time I left the apartment complex, it was extremely common to find roaches crawling on the walls, in the cabinets, in the dishwasher, in the bathtub, and just everywhere. I had been on the... list for pest control for at least 3/4ths of the time I was there because it was constant. It had gotten to the point where the pest control person told me that I couldn't request it every week because the bugs would become immune to it and maintenance said that honestly, there was nothing they could do about the bugs because they could be coming from the other neighbors (by that time, I was believing that they were coming from inside the wall because I caught them coming in through the vents); essentially, I was told I was going to have to live them them. It was a total nightmare and thanks to that experience, I now suffer from PTSD from the entire experience.
**Apartment/Complex Area**: My apartment wasn’t move-in ready when I first arrived. The master bedroom had a hole in the floor that had been covered by carpet that my foot fully sank into and my bathtub had moldy black grout on it. The floors were uneven, the mirror damage, cabinet drawers wouldn’t work well, doors wouldn’t fully close, holes that were poorly covered, leaks, and an oven that you couldn’t set above 400 degrees without tripping the fuse box among other things.
