Silk Mill Lofts

I work at a large tech company in NYC and wanted to move somewhere quieter so that I could enjoy more peace and quiet. When I found Silk Mill Lofts, I thought it was too good to be true. The windows are HUGE, the ceilings are 12 ft tall, the units are beautifully laid out with modern amenities, not to mention there's also gym, an outdoor area, and AMAZING tenants. Seriously, everyone here is kind and quiet and I love coming home each day.

Building management is top-notch. Melissa and Ed are… highly communicative, kind, selfless and extremely quick to fix any issue. There have been times where something happened (i.e. my dryer was having problems) and Ed came over the same day and fixed it.

In the past, I have lived in buildings in New York City and Brooklyn where I had to fight to get issues addressed and then fight even harder to get them fixed, but at Silk Mill Lofts, it's as easy as submitting a work order on the website!

The train station is a 10-15 minute walk from here and the surrounding streets are so beautiful that I don't mind walking at all.

If you're looking to live somewhere that gives you peace of mind, bliss, and comfort, you need to talk to Melissa. I have never been happier living somewhere in my life and I recommend this building to all of my friends. I've lived here for over a year now. Absolutely no complaints. The units are beautiful, the tenants are generally very nice and quiet. It's a good mix of soon-to-be-retirees who are downsizing to apartment-living and young professionals who commute to NYC. The staff (Melissa, Ed, and Herb) are always friendly and responsive. It's a very pet-friendly place to live, and the monthly pet rent is very reasonable (30 for pups; 15 for cats, I believe).

Before we moved here, we were looking at… other apartments in Bloomfield. We picked Silk Mill because it's on a sleepy residential street but still close enough to walk to places in Bloomfield Center (nice restaurants/local grocery store) or around Glen Ridge (so beautiful there). We also liked that it wasn't in a bad part of town like some other apartments we were looking at.

Also, for the price, we like what we get. At other apartments in the area, to use facilities like the gym or those silly media rooms that no one ever uses (outdated computer, printer, stinky sofa, a tv, and some lame DVDs), they make you pay hundreds a month for it. Here, you get a nice little gym for free and there is no media room, which is fine by me!

It's a little pricey to live here, but it seems in line with other complexes/apartments in the area. I guess that's North NJ for ya! But we do have great amenities and some free utilities (in-unit W D, dishwasher, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, hardwood floors, tall ceilings, beautiful factory windows, nice closet/storage space). There are also two gated parking lots. One-bedroom units get one free spot; two-bedroom units get two free spots; additional spots are about 60 a month, but there is usually free ample street parking on our little residential street.

This place is a little hidden oasis! The lofts are spacious,have wonderful windows and priced amazingly for the area. I love that they are located right next to the park and there are so many free amenities here like a bike room and additional storage! Also, they are upgrading the amenities and the new building manager has been a pleasure to deal with. LOVE living here.
