Signed Lease but denied access the day of move in
My two roommates and I were informed that we were approved tenants and scheduled to move in on 2/29/2024. All seemed well until the day of the scheduled move, around 4:00 pm, when I decided to make a routine call to clarify a minor query. To my utter shock, I was informed at this late hour that we were no longer able to move in.
According to the staff, an error had been made on their end. While I can understand that mistakes can happen, what baffles me is the fact that just two days prior, on... 2/27/2024, I received an email containing the signed lease. This lease was signed by both the leasing agent and myself, along with my roommates. The email clearly outlined our move-in time of 5:45 pm on 2/29/2024.
Following the instructions in the email, I had already initiated the process of renter's insurance and connected the electricity for the apartment. However, when I tried to discuss this discrepancy with the leasing agent, I was met with a dismissive response.
I was simply told that the regional supervisor had denied the lease due to credit reasons. Fair enough, but what baffles me further is that I was assured during the application process that if there were any issues with qualification, I would be offered an alternative program to assist in meeting the requirements.
Hoping for clarity, I returned on 3/1/2024 to speak with the manager. To my dismay, the manager was not present. Left with no other option, I asked the leasing agent if I could at least have the reason for our denial in writing. To my disbelief, instead of an explanation, she proceeded to call the police on us, demanding that we leave the premises with our signed lease. What adds insult to injury is the fact that we applied early in February. If we did not meet the qualifications, why did it take until the 29th to notify us? This lack of communication and professionalism is unacceptable. I demand immediate action to rectify this situation. We will be seeking guidance on what steps to take regarding a signed lease by all parties, and why our attempt to discuss this matter during business hours was met with such hostility, resulting in the unnecessary involvement of law enforcement.
In conclusion, my experience with the 1512 Apartment Complex has been nothing short of a nightmare. I urge potential tenants to proceed with caution and consider the lack of professionalism and disregard for tenant concerns that we have unfortunately experienced firsthand.
