A really nice place . . . but

We watched this complex being built from the ground up. When it finally opened, we took a tour, put our money down, and moved in. Our one-bedroom unit is about 50% larger than the one we left in a nearby town. It’s also cheaper, if you include the cost of utilities. From our second-floor balcony, we have a nice view over acres of untouched native meadow, trees, and occasional deer.

The apartments are well insulated and have heat pumps. Our electric bills – in Texas heat – have been...
UNDER $70 for our 900 sq. ft. apartment. You will have to jump through some hoops if you have a pet, but there is NO pet rent.

Walking the sidewalk loop in the complex is about a quarter mile, so you can take walks without traffic problems. We are about a half mile from the local hospital. We are about three miles from the center of La Grange. It has a population of almost 5,000 and is a really nice town, with good shopping and restaurants. Many downtown businesses are in historic structures dating back to the late 1800s and local museums have everything from quilts to Texas Czech culture.

Internet is through the phone jack type, from a local provider. That provider does have some fast speeds – if you can handle the HIGH prices. If you want cable TV, you are outta luck. The apartments are wired for cable . . . BUT . . . the cables are not connected to anything. They come out of each end of the buildings and lay on the ground. There is fiber available at one edge of the property, but that provider says they haven’t received permission to hook us up. Don’t count on using your phone as a hotspot, we tried that. Service is hit or miss.

The city limits end at the street in front of this place so if you need emergency services, you will be dealing with the county.

We are about 60 miles from Austin, 100 miles from Houston, and 170 miles from the beach at Port Aransas.
