You get what you pay for
I'm a college student working at the Stinson Municipal Airport, and I've been living in a studio for over a year.
My experience living at this complex hasn't been terrible, but it hasn't been great.
You'll have roaches. Accept it or move somewhere else. I keep my apartment extremely clean, but it's no use if the complex is filthy. The treatment doesn't last. I've resigned to just having a can of Raid as a permanent staple in my kitchen. Most of the time it's just the little ones; I'll... occasionally find the Texas-sized ones in my apartment.
The neighborhood isn't normally too loud, but there's always an exception. Maybe 1x/month I'll get woken up by people in the pool or just loitering and being noisy.
The parking lot frequently has pot-holes. They get fixed, 2 weeks later they come back. Just drive slowly.
Maintenance requests take a week to be taken care of. That's best-case-scenario; I've had it take over a month in the past. From my experience, the squeaky wheel gets greased.....i.e. -- if you call in and complain enough or show face at the office they'll take care of it more quickly.
Most of my neighbors are friendly enough or keep to themselves. I've never explicitly felt unsafe. I've had a few (2) strangers approach my door...there's a peephole so I just check and if I don't know who it is I don't answer. Both times they went away.
My car has been broken into 3x, but I can't really say "broken-in" in the traditional sense of the word. I drive a really old car, so my car doors are typically unlocked. I don't leave anything valuable in my car. Who knows how many times someone has gone through my car, but I only know of 3 occurrences because the offender(s) went through my glove box and left napkins all over the place. It doesn't really bother me; nothing worth taking gets left out there. I would recommend anyone considering moving here to practice the same habit. I've never had someone break-in/tamper with my apartment.
The laundry facilities are functional, but don't let your clothes sit in there for long. I've had my underwear stolen from the dryer. Yes, specifically underwear. I don't care to know the reason the individual decided to take that specific article of clothing.
Overall it's not the worst place in the world to live, and the important thing is that the rent's cheap. So if you can put up with those inconveniences, then you can move in. If you're not ok with those standards, look elsewhere.
