Avoid at all costs

If you care about your apartment being well managed, steer clear of Schooner Bay. Maintenance takes well over a month to complete urgent requests (appliances leaking) and their move-out charges are unfair. They charged almost $300 for cleaning, when our unit was in better condition than we received it in. They attached photos and even the photos show the unit was spotless. They are untrustworthy. We were planning on moving out anyways, but we had to laugh when our renewal offer came in at $300... more than what we were already paying (well over market rate.) Not to mention, the management and maintenance team do not care that the pools are used by large groups who do not live on the property. The lock was broken the entire time we lived there, and cars full of teenagers would drive in to use the pool we pay for. Schooner Bay is by far my least favorite apartment complex I have lived in so far. On the day we moved out, the maintenance team was in their golf cart at our neighbors and one of the techs said “I don't feel like doing this today” and they left. Seems professional to me! Our unit flooded and we were without living room walls for 4 months. We did not complain, but we did have to continuously ask for updates or our unit would slip through the cracks.

Utility prices are high here, in townhomes.

Maintenances are good, complex is so pretty with nice view, but in townhouses utility price is so high.

Poor maintenance and no support

Poor maintenance of older apartments, frequent leaks and apartment flooding, no rent credits or help when it happens or if you need to move. Best to consider a second floor only or another apartment complex.

Negative experience

Extremely loud, dog poo and trash everywhere, new management is unhelpful. We had a very bad experience here and left a full month before our lease expired because we couldnt take it anymore.

Schooner Bay Apartments

There are a few different types of units available at this property. I live in what they call the Driftwood II (2 because it's on the second floor). It's a pretty decent layout and I have a small patio/deck that overlooks one of the man made lagoons that are part of the property.

Foster City is a nice town to live in. A few convenient small shopping centers and quite a few nice parks. Some of them adjacent to one of the man made lagoons that dot the landscape of the city in general. The...
Schooner Bay property is not bad. Two pool areas with jacuzzis, a small equipped health center, and a community room available to rent for special occasions.

At the moments, rents are high here in the SF Bay area, but the rents at Schooner Bay are slightly higher than similar units in other nearby communities.

Schooner Bay is also a pet friendly property (extra fees however) and there is a large common area (actually Foster City property) that is convenient for walking and exercising your dog(s). Another perk is that the property is adjacent to a section of the "Bay Trail", which is a series of connected paths that almost completely circumnavigates the SF Bay. Every unit also has it's own private one car garage.

On the down side, it is a property owned by a corporation based out of Chicago and sometimes the tenants feel they are treated like cattle. The office and maintenance staff sometimes have an attitude that says "if you don't like it, leave". On maintenance items, they will try to get off cheap instead of replacing items are old and worn out. Another issue is that the property has strict rules regarding the mounting and placement of satellite dishes, so one is stuck with subscribing to the local cable company (Comcast/Xfinity). Very few tenants have Satellite TV, you could probably count them all on one hand (out of 312 apartments).
