Amenities overshadowed by serious ongoing issues and poor management

The HW ICLG offers attractive amenities, but the day-to-day experience here is extremely frustrating due to ongoing issues with management and building maintenance.

While the new property manager has been communicative, the prior manager was highly unresponsive, often taking over a week to reply. The leasing office is frequently closed with the shades drawn, making it difficult to address concerns.

Cleanliness has become a major issue, especially with all the construction. Common areas and the...
garage are constantly covered in dust and debris, and our cars in the garage are coated with dirt from construction activity. Despite management’s communication that construction workers would use a designated elevator during business hours, the elevator has been frequently shut off or inaccessible outside of those hours—sometimes extending through weekends. The construction team has also been using the alternate elevator, making it difficult for residents to move through the building.

Trash collection is poorly managed, with clogged chutes and waste piling up. Additionally, there are safety hazards throughout the property that have been ignored by management, despite numerous complaints. When we escalated urgent fire and life safety concerns to the regional VP, her response came days later, even though she had promised quicker responses for urgent matters. Neighbors have also reported leaks from the rooftop into their homes and package theft, with packages left unprotected in the lobby.

The boiler has failed multiple times, resulting in hot water outages, and the water shut-offs have become a regular inconvenience. These issues have persisted for months, and it’s clear from other reviews that poor communication and responsiveness from management are ongoing problems.

Living here has felt like being stuck in a construction zone for two months, with constant noise, false fire alarms, and restricted access to guest parking and amenities like the rooftop pool. Package management is virtually non-existent, and residents are left to deal with the consequences of theft and disorganization.

While the new manager seems to be working hard to improve things, the issues are extensive, and the current state of the building is far from what you would expect from a luxury apartment community.

Disappointing Management Despite Charming Building

While this building has some appealing features—it’s small, quiet, and charming, with nice finishes and amenities—unfortunately, the management is severely lacking.

When we moved in, we had multiple repair issues that had been overlooked during the inspection process. We had to request repairs that should have been addressed before move-in, which was frustrating.

The pool was unexpectedly shut down in late August with no notice, and the communication about its reopening has been almost...
non-existent. Recently, we discovered that the entire rooftop would be closed until late January, again with very little communication and no offer for rent concessions despite the major inconvenience.

To make matters worse, for the past three weeks, noise levels have been so disruptive that my partner hasn’t been able to work from home. Despite reaching out multiple times to management, specifically Karmine, we received no response. A new manager has taken over and has been more communicative, but the lack of responsiveness and accountability beforehand has left a bad impression.

The building has potential, but unless the management issues are addressed, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Avoid if you are a prospective tenant

We have lived in this building for many years, and like any apartment complex it has never been perfect but over all in the past was a wonderful place to live. The last couple of years the maintenance of the building has gone way way down-it seems as if the CLG ownership group is more focused on building new apartment complexes elsewhere then maintaining their current properties.
The rooftop was torn up/large platters emptied & ugly plywood nailed over the top of all of them in the first week...
of March 2024. They emailed the residents saying they were going to “beautify & update the roof.” It has now been over 6 months & still looks like a construction site with minimal updates from management & zero apologies for ruining the main amenity with no plan to fix it.
The pool was drained mid-August without any warning & it has now been a month & a half with no pool in the peak of summer heat.
One can tolerate constant water shut offs & constant random fire alarms going off however removing the main amenity of the building with no apology, plan, and next to zero updates & expecting all of the residents to just tolerate it in a “luxury building” is ludicrous.

Property Manager at The HW by CLG responded to this review

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for being a valued resident over the years. We understand your frustration with the recent decline in building maintenance and the impact of ongoing projects on your living experience.

We recognize that the...
pool renovation has been particularly inconvenient, and we understand the disappointment of losing this amenity, especially during the peak summer months. Heavy rains in recent years led to structural damage beneath the pool deck, requiring essential repairs to ensure tenant safety. Alongside these necessary repairs, we’re refreshing the pool deck to create an enhanced space for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you again for your patience and honest feedback. We’re committed to making the improvements needed to bring the community back to the high standard you expect. If there’s anything more we can address, please feel free to reach out directly.
