PROs: affordability and brick CONs: acoustics, elevator, mailroom theft
I wanted to live in a brick building and this place drew me in for the price. I loved my apartment, here are a few pros and cons about this building:
Pros:
- Affordable and rent controlled
- Exposed brick
- No onsite parking but pretty easy to find street parking. It does get competitive on Wednesdays and Thursdays for street cleaning. Catalytic converter was also stolen.
- Maintenance is fast
- Great breeze if you’re in the right apartment.
Cons:
- Elevator: old building – old... elevator. Hard to open, breaks down a lot and small so moving is done up the stairs.
- No security, doors always open or stuck
- Not as many homeless people outside the building compared to Wilshire area but still sketch and a number of incidents.
- Laundry is on site but breaks down all the time. Residents move your clothes.
- Residents steal packages, send your packages to the 7-11
- Acoustics: you will hear absolutely everything above and below you. Someone turns a sink on you will hear it. People playing music? The whole building will hear. People playing instruments on the 4th floor? You can hear it at the basement.
