the common area carpet is dingy and the area smells.

i cannot use the phone at all in the apartment. I have to drive a block or 2 away to use the phone. i wish someone had told me that before i moved in.

Godwin properties owns this apartment complex. Having lived there some five years with a contract with the previous owners, I left in 2008. While living there, the previous owners never increased rent and made sure that the manager responded to problems reported in a timely fashion. Unfortunately the building was sold while I was still a tenant. There were some concessions that I made voluntarily as the rent was quite reasonable. The most important concession was that I never asked that the... carpets which had seen better days be changed, instead shampooing them every 2 to 3 months. However the carpets were stained deeply and the stains consistently resurfaced. Those carpets must have been there at least 15 years. Alas when I left, the new owners kept my security deposit claiming I was responsible for the poor condition of the carpets. As the manager who was there when I moved in had been changed by the new owners, my refutation fell on deaf ears and I never got my deposit back.
