dishonest management and unsafe living conditions

Absolutely horrible experience living at Portage Bay. Loud residents, laundry machines that the property set up to overcharge your credit card, many code violations on the property that we have reported the owner for. The management is unresponsive, never in the office, and rude. Look elsewhere in Davis!!

Changes to the quality of life here

Sadly, things have drastically changed. I've lived here six years and have recommended this place to many people, but no longer. Our quality of life here has diminished. Sal and Ricky, the maintenance team, are fantastic when it comes to being extremely attentive to tenants, and they are really great, but: (1) Suddenly we are required to have parking permits (costing us $100/year!) and there is NO visitor parking. There are rarely spaces on the street available - plus NO LIGHTING on the street... - and we ALWAYS have empty spaces in our lots. The towing company comes by often (day and night) and tows cars out of the lot, even on weekends and even when we have lots of empty spaces available. Costs $240 for your guest to get the car out of the Olive Drive facility. (2) They installed a package locker (for which we are now charged $100 year!) which repeatedly beeps loudly every time a locker is open - day and night. (3) Rent has increased by at least $95/month and more every year, and I was told it will be increasing much more than that. Also,we are required to renew our lease 7 months before the start date, which is absurd. (4) Lots of leaf blowing every day, and especially on Tuesdays when the landscaping company arrives, where there is literally hours of leaf blowing and noise. Add to that the hours of leaf blowing from Stonegate across the street every day (they even do the roof), and it's unbearable. (5) The dumpsters are very close to the apartments. You can hear people as early as 5am going through the trash, and the trash trucks are very loud around 8am when they arrive. (6) Management has decided to renovate all the apartment porches, so there is loud construction noise every day. I was told this will continue for a year. (7) Management has decided to remove the very large planter containers on upstairs porches that many of us have had gardens in for years. Ridiculous decision, considering we can just replace them with containers of our own. But they are going to dump our gardens that we have had plants in for years. (8) This used to be a cat-only complex, but now dogs are allowed, even PIT BULLS. Now we deal with constant barking, off-leash dogs, the smell of pee in the landscaping, and poop in the courtyard. I hope management reads this review and changes their policies, because Portage Bay used to be quiet, pleasant, and policies were reasonable. There are many disgruntled tenants here now.

Great service, great location.

This is a great place to live for students and anyone else. Bus picks up right outside the apartment building. The complex has a pool,jacuzzi,and laundry rooms and is right next to playgrounds and friendly neighborhoods for thiose with families. The apartments themselves are nice and spacious and best of all, affordable, particurally for couples and families.
