Termite Infestation Alert!!!
Apartment was not ready for move in. I have lived at Valentia for nearly 3 months now and when I tell you it is NOT worth the rent cost, trust me on this. I moved into the apartment with a termite infestation and am still dealing with this nightmare. I requested one month free rent in return for the extensive troubles (moving in with a corroded/leaking faucet, termite infestation, unreachable attic door open letting bugs in, damaged mirror, dry rotted bedroom door to patio, being told via email... the wrong mailbox at move in, and the list goes on and on), and I have only been compensated $500, despite moving into the unlivable conditions, and rent is more than 6x that for a 1br apartment. Termite droppings literally come out of my vent and I need to clean them up daily. At move in, I let them know that the termite infested door and frame to my bedroom needed to be replaced ASAP and it still has yet to get done. The vendor came today, but had not been informed that the entire door frame would need to be replaced due to the extensive termite damage, so they’ll have to come back tomorrow. I find that lack of communication interesting. I have had to miss work over this, and people are constantly coming in and out of my apartment to fix things or treat termites. Shea Properties, please do better. The amount of stress this causes is truly unjust.

Hi! We are truly sorry that this happened, we never want a pest issue to happen to any of our residents and especially not during move in. We know how stressful moving can be and this is truly a unique and unusual situation for us. Our team does... extensive walkthroughs before leasing an apartment and we sincerely apologize that this was missed while turning your apartment; sometimes heavy rain can cause an uptick in pest issues for apartment communities, and this was the case here as we’ve had an unusual amount of rain this winter in San Diego. As you mention, we are in the process of replacing the door with our vendor. We’ve reviewed the full scope of work with them and things should be seamless moving forward. We understand you received a concession at move-in and additional concession as a customer service gesture, and please know that we are working as fast as possible to mitigate the pest issue and make other repairs. Again, this is an unusual move-in experience for us and our entire team will be working hard throughout your residency to turn your experience around. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Team Valentia
