Awful Staff, Ownership, and Condition
First, the cost and quality of these apartments are an insult to tenants. The corporate owners exploit the housing shortage to charge exorbitant rents for poorly maintained units. Interiors are outdated, with squeaky floors, paper-thin walls, and stained carpets. Expect to inherit clogged baseboard heaters and other signs of neglect upon move-in. The longer you stay, the more the shoddy construction becomes evident, despite the misleadingly fresh-looking exteriors.
The lease terms are predatory.... Yarmouth Pointe requires a 60-day notice to vacate—double the standard 30 days—making moving out a logistical nightmare. Renewal options are worse: a modest rent hike for another year or an astronomical $400-500 monthly increase for going month-to-month. Failure to explicitly notify the management of your plans triggers punitive fees or automatic enrollment in the month-to-month option. This coercive policy leaves tenants feeling trapped.
Management’s indifference to residents’ well-being is glaring. The office is often closed during posted hours, staff ignore calls, and maintenance requests are slow and slapdash. Worse yet, fees seem to be their primary focus—any misstep will likely result in additional charges.
The facilities themselves are riddled with issues. Emergency water shutoffs occur monthly due to aging infrastructure. Snow removal policies are awful: residents must vacate parking lots entirely after every storm or risk a fine, yet incomplete plowing is common if even one car is left behind (and there are always a few cars left behind). Because of this, even those who inconvenience themselves by following the rules will return to messy snow-filled parking.
Pest problems, including mice and cockroaches, further diminish the living experience. Complaints to management about these infestations yield little action. Children playing in parking lots and around cars can cause minor damages—an annoyance if you value your vehicle’s condition.
If you value your money, time, and sanity, steer clear of Yarmouth Pointe and other Taymil properties.
