Ridiculous charges on final move out inspection
The River Trail Estates gives you no option to respond on the tenant portal so I thought this would be the best place. I was a great, quiet tenant. I paid my rent on time and my place was fantastically clean when I moved out, I even vacuumed the garage. I just got my inspection report back and they are charging me for ridiculous things see the detailed list below. When I moved in the kitchen sink only had one strainer instead of 2, this is not a specific line item on the move in checklist,... so I was not even aware there was supposed to be a strainer in each sink. I purchased another strainer for the side that was missing. A couple months into the lease, the one that was there broke out so I purchased another one so both sides would have a strainer. They charged me for having 2 non-standard strainers in the sink. They also charged me $6 for what they say are 2 broken vertical blinds. The blinds were the same as when I moved in, all of them worked correctly and did not appear to be broken so of course I could not note this in in my inspection report. Most places I have rented from previously would consider $6 vertical blind the cost of doing business with renters apparently not this property owner. I moved from out of state and have never had this experience before so unsure if this is a Wisconsin thing or if this is just a property owner thing.
2 long blind slats are broken and need to be replaced at $6/blind. $12.00
2 sink stoppers in the kitchen sink are not standard and need to be replaced at
$3.75/strainer. $7.50
closet door in the master bedroom has a puncture hole from door stopper and
door needs to be replaced. $47.87.
So for a grand total of $67.37 SC Swiderski is willing to alienate a great tenant and any future referrals.
Further, I never complained about this when I was living there because I figured part of living in an apartment was being tolerant of my neighbors. But my next-door neighbors were both smokers, the property rules are that you cannot smoke in the apartment. However, that means that my neighbors were smoking right outside my door a lot. They usually smoked by their car that was parked very closely to my front door. I could smell the cigarette smoke when coming and going from my house, even when I was in my garage and when my windows were open the smoke would float in. I would have to close my windows on nice breezy days to avoid having to smell the cigarette smoke.
