Not worth it
My rental experience at Verso Apartments was the worst I’ve ever had. This is a privately owned building that is managed by Minnesota Apartments LLC. The utilities are not included in the rental price, and averaged above $200/month for a 411sq foot studio. The monthly cost for both utilities and rent exceeded the price of comparable units in apartment buildings with nice amenities— this building has absolutely no common space.
Because the building was under construction last spring, and I was... moving from out of town- I regrettably signed the lease without viewing the unit.
First, they initially misrepresented the size of appliances as full sized, when they are miniature. The management stated they were given incorrect information by the owners and provided a parking space for half-price to make-up for the mistake. When I moved in everything was dusty from the construction, and painting tape was still up in some areas. I didn’t complain, because the apartment was brand new.
Secondly, the brand new temperature control unit began to malfunction within the first month. My air conditioner would drip excessively and short circuit— sometimes switching to heat unprompted. After numerous maintenance requests, the problem was never fixed. Each time I was told they couldn’t tell what was wrong. I had to live in constant anxiety that the AC would switch to heat while not at home because I have an assistance animal.
Lastly, upon moving out I clean the apartment exceptionally well, leaving it more clean than when I moved in. I had art up on my walls, and filled the holes with patch & paint. Regardless, they took my entire deposit for a cleaning fee, and then charged me an additional $720 to paint.
As a person with a disability I am used to life being unfair— but this place functions outside of normal business ethics.
