I rent 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment and I have to sleep in the living room. At Ridgefield Gardens there is a set policy that you CANNOT view the apartment you want to move into beforehand. You are given a video of a similar looking apartment to and you have to sign contract where you agree that you have viewed the apartment and it is acceptable as is. As mentioned before I wasn't allowed to view the apartment.
After I signed the contract I had to pay nonrefundable 1st month rent + half months... rent + deposit to hold apartment. This means if I changed my mind about renting, they keep the money, hence nonrefundable.
The day I moved in there was a loud noise and humming coming from underneath the designated bedroom. It was bad and still is. The manager nor sales agent told me that this horrible noise would be something I would to deal with for the entire lease time. The noise comes from the boiler underneath. It also causes the floor to vibrate. It causes me headaches and nausea so I have to sleep in the living room.
I did ask to be transferred to a new unit. I was denied this. I did ask the manager why would they withhold this information...etc. So guys I am stuck in the contract.
The apartment that I live in is also a nonrenovated apartment therefore the pretty pictures you see of the apartments on the website are not the apartments I have lived in. I lived in another unit before moving into this one. Those pictures are for the renovated apartments only.
Parking is not monitored and limited, so sometimes cars will block others cars from leaving.
Laundry room has machines that go out of service multiple times a week. It might be best to get a unit with a washer and dryer to avoid delays in doing laundry.
Landlord wants to add additional fee to our rents for "capital improvements" on top of the new rise in rent. We are currently fighting this with a tenant advocate.
