Not what it looks like

The property looks nice, but the police are called there too often which is probably why there is a substation across the street. The property manager is nice until you sign your lease, then she turns mean, rude and condescending, all up in your business watching when you have visitors and telling you where they should and should not park, and what you can and cannot have on your own patio. The apartments have fireplaces but they won't let you burn wood in them for some reason. The only good... thing is that if something is broke, maintenance is fast. And there is no trash pickup like it says in the description.

If you like living under a microscope, this is the place!

I haven't been watched this closely since I lived with my parents. We recently moved out of this complex because it is too restricting and the management staff spends too much time watching residents looking to complain about something. It's almost like living in a dorm except, at least in a dorm, you can have overnight guests without being grilled about it.

Yes, the apartments are nice and the rent is reasonable and I was initially happy about living there. All the questions I got when I...
moved in that seemed like small talk eventually wound up being a baseline for criticism and observation. I read on another websie about how much oversight tenants were placed under, but I had no idea that any apartment complex would be SO bad.

The previous complex manager was bad, but this new one, Rita, is the worst. She sits in the office and watches everyone coming and going to the point of obsession. If you have weekend guests or a party, she definitely mentions it the next time she sees you, like you're not supposed to have company or enjoy yourselves in a place you pay for, and has called the local police for guests lingering in the parking lot while leaving.

In nice weather, she walks around the property looking for things to call tenants about, will tell you that she is "trying to get some exercise" but is really looking at tenant movement. A single neighbor complained to us that Rita insisted a new boyfriend who visited often needed to have a background check and be put on the lease since he was there often and "in case something happened in the apartment" they would be covered in case of liability. (isn't that what renters insurance is for?) It's crazy that a person that pays rent isn't allowed to naturally progress in a relationship and have regular visits without the management asking personal questions about it. And talk about awkward telling a boyfriend that he has to be on your lease because he comes over a lot!

And the maintenance guy is equally nosey, fixing things while looking for something to report back to the office.

I've never been so glad to move from a place!

Slate Ridge Commons

This place is great!!!! The apartments are very spacious and the grounds are very well taken care of. Maintenance is very fast and you can do the requests online. Could be one of the best values in the area
