Charges after Move Out
My lease wasn't renewed after 5 years. My unit was marked for major renovations so I had to move. I wasn't offered to transfer or given any concessions for the inconvenience and expense.
This is the very first time I didn't receive a full refund on the deposit. They charged the entire $400, plus $23 more! They said they took photos. I didn't receive any. There was 5 years of normal wear and tear on the place, No carpet rips, stains, no tears in the linoleum, no broken windows, no holes in... walls, lights and ceiling fans worked. All counters were good. I never had a washer dryer. Never used the dishwasher or fireplace. No clogged plumbing. No counter top damage. I left a cleaned assigned trash can. Returned all keys, didn't leave anything behind. What damage amounted to $423.00? They required pest inspection 2 1/2 half months before move out. The tech said it was strange, he never saw any complex do this! I was responsible for any bugs that entered after my lease terminated because I was charged $12.00 more for visits for 2 months AFTER move out.
They’d have to clean up after major renovations, wouldn’t they? Seems they'd paint walls and either replace the carpeting or stretch out the buckles. They didn’t need to charge a cleaning fee, unless I am paying for cleanup after the workers!
No refund on the pet deposit, either. No explanation was given. It shows on the lease, though. Never says it wasn't refundable. In fact, while I lived there, I transferred apartments and they indeed refunded the entire pet deposit and transferred it to my new place.
I provided photos of existing damage at I move in. The front door locks were in terrible conition. They refused to fix it until the city code inspector made them.
Now, for just $5 more a month, I live in a clean, modern apartment that has hot water and a working front door with professional management that actually seem like they're happy in life.
