My Thoughts on Living Here For A Few Months
I will start with the small number of good things I have to say about this place: 1. Repairs are made for absolute emergencies (if you contact maintenance directly), 2. The apartments are spacious, 3. The location is mostly great (low foot traffic, but also close to the riverside trail for long walks, and many restaurants close by if you're into that).
That said, the bad outnumbers the good and is concerning. The worst part is that the management is unresponsive once the lease is signed. They... haven't responded to our requests for even simple information such as help explaining a strange surcharge on our bill. Additionally, we have had many damaged items in our unit and most of these have been here since we moved in and management has not resolved these issues.
I mentioned that the location is mostly great. I said mostly because there are three catches. The big one is the train. If you're a light sleeper, you should be aware that the rail line crosses the road by Dock Street. This means that you will hear a very loud series of honks by the train horn every time the train needs to cross the road. Every night that I have been up late, I hear it every night. The second catch is that parking is a luxury. You should expect to pay for parking (varies, but expect to pay around $100). If you have delivery services, guests, etc. then you will need to expect them to be a bit delayed as they circle the block looking for a spot. Finally, you should expect to need to drive for your groceries. The nearby grocery store includes a steep markup on most items. It's great for an emergency and select items, but that's it.
Finally, the high ceilings present a number of problems. Smoke detectors are inaccessible without a large ladder, so you have to request that maintenance comes to replace the battery (or pay hundreds of dollars to get a tall ladder). The cooling costs will be higher in the summer because of all that extra space. Most annoyingly, the increased distance from the neighbor above you will not help with reducing the sound from neighbors. On top of the noise, the vibration of their constant dropping of items causes dusts to rain down on us from the vents that can't be cleaned since they are so high up.
To summarize: I can't recommend this place. If you are having issues finding another place or are in need to finding a place fast, this place can work. However, I've had too many issues to give this a positive review.
