Save yourself and your money - believe the reviews

The Thomas Jefferson Tower is a beautiful historic building, however you’d be better off dining at the restaurant or hosting an event here, but it is not ideal for living. The safety measured advertised are non-functional included the gated parking and building key fob system. The building is located in an area of the city with a large homeless population and one block from the Amtrak/Greyhound station - which isn’t an issue as most who move to the city expect what comes along with living... downtown. However, safety becomes an issue when there aren’t functioning security parameters put in place. Anyone can access all the floors in the building and often times we have homeless citizens roaming the floor trying to open vacant apartments at all hours. Most recently, we were notified that the building would no longer have security with flyers with an image of a grim reaper in our elevators. Not only was this unprofessional, but also alarming due to the fact that our “secured” and gated parking lot has been broken since this past summer and the controlled access to the building is also consistently down. The package room where deliveries are made also is supposed to be secured, however the keypad is non functional and the door is always open for anyone to enter. Many times residents’ packages and personal information is left on the front desk which is directly near the entrance. This building is a multi-use building with a restaurant, convenience store, and event space. Any patrons visiting for either of those three have access to residents packages and mail left out in the open on the desk. Maintenance requests all go unattended and unanswered. Though the building has been renovated, it is still over a century old and has insect issues in the units to which management and maintenance are unresponsive to. These are beautiful apartments in a well-renovated, historic building, but unfortunately this is lack of safety, cleanliness, and building maintenance outweighs the good. Also, please be aware that SPM does not background check maintenance staff.

While we're glad you find our historic building beautiful, the issues you've presented are disheartening. Your frustration is understandable, and our team is diligently addressing these issues. We've experienced significant impediments in the repair... of our parking gate. The pandemic, shipping delays, and vendor cancelations have pushed our proposed timeline far beyond our original expectations. To expedite the remainder of this process, we've contracted a new service company. In conjunction with the gate repair, residents will receive new access fobs to restore the controlled access to our community. Every employee is subject to a background check, and we are interested to know who provided you with incorrect information regarding our screening procedures. The flyer you've referenced was not created or distributed by our on-site staff or management company and does not reflect our values. If you have any information regarding the party responsible for this misleading and misrepresentative flyer, please alert us immediately.

The keypad for our package room is operational, and the code was emailed to residents on 11/17/21. A team member is present when mail is delivered and places packages in the package room, other than oversized deliveries. When oversized deliveries are left, we contact the resident immediately. Packages left on the front desk belong to management. As a reminder, we request residents to fully close the package room door upon exit to ensure it is secured.

Our maintenance team is eager to resolve residents' concerns and happily responds to requests in the order they are received, outside of emergencies. If there is an issue with your home that is unresolved, please let us know so we may quickly address it. Pest control is available weekly by request, and we will gladly add your home to our list for service if you've encountered pests.

If you were not at the recent resident meeting, our manager is happy to speak with you in person to discuss your thoughts and learn how to improve your experience. We want every resident to feel confident in choosing to call our apartments home. Please contact us at your earliest convenience, and if you do not reach us immediately, please leave a message referencing this review. We hope to improve your experience and opinion soon.

Management, Property Maintenance, Safety Issues

In the past year of living at the TJ Tower there has been a steep decline in professionalism of management and maintenance of the property. Upon moving here over a year ago, management was friendly and attentive. In the recent months, management has become almost nonexistent unless it consists of leaving rude, unprofessional flyers throughout the building. For example, we were notified that the building would no longer have security with flyers with an image of a grim reaper in our elevators.... Not only was this unprofessional, but also alarming due to the fact that our “secured” and gated parking lot has been broken since this summer and the controlled access to the building is also consistently down. The package room where deliveries are made also is supposed to be secured, however the keypad is non functional and the door is always open for anyone to come as they please. You would think being that the TJ Tower is a multi use building, this would be more of a priority to management to keep this area secured. These are beautiful apartments in a beautifully historic building, however if safety is a concern of yours please look elsewhere.

While we appreciate your feedback and are glad you've found our renovations beautiful, we're sorry you aren't pleased with life at our apartments. First and foremost, we need to address the flyer you've mentioned. Neither our on-site team nor... management company created or issued this flyer. It does not represent our views or values, and we have removed it each time it has been posted. If you witness the person responsible for posting these offensive and inaccurate flyers, please alert our team as soon as possible. We care about our residents' well-being and would never provide important communication in such an unprofessional manner.

We apologize for the concerns you've brought to our attention. We are aware of the issues regarding the keypad and parking gate. Parts are on order and repairs are scheduled. The code for the package room was changed, and we will remind residents to fully close the door when exiting to ensure it remains locked when not in use. We have also reminded the restaurant's valet about the importance of maintaining our building's controlled access. Our new manager is sorry you've not experienced our best and would like to speak with you. Our goal is to improve your lifestyle and restore your confidence in choosing to call our community home.

I could have loved this place...

I could have loved this place; the units were beautifully remodeled and the views of the city are spectacular! It is conveniently located within walking distance to numerous restaurants, Railroad Park, and Regions Field. For the most part the staff was friendly and helpful, and made an attempt to be accommodating. However, this was the worst place I have ever lived!!
I get that apartment/downtown living comes with its noise issues, but this place was non-stop noise all the time. Between the...
traffic, bus station, railroad, and bar/nightclubs there was no escape from the noise. Upon many occasions there were parties and commotion going on till 3 in the morning! I was so unhappy here that breaking the lease was a must for me; I only stayed for a month and a half. I think that I was misled into thinking this was a nice and safe neighborhood and their slogan is "Live Above the Noise!" it was more like living in the noise! Before signing my lease it was implied that because the police headquarters is right across the street the neighborhood was safe; later after I had complained about the noise I was told that they could file a noise complaint about the 2 bar/nightclub establishments next door with the police department, but they would likely just go to the bars and have shots with the patrons. The noise coupled with the drug and alcohol bottles found next to my car were more than enough to make me get out as fast as I could. If you are not a party all-nighter and enjoy a little piece and quiet, do yourself a favor and DO NOT LIVE HERE!!

While it isn’t what we hope to hear, we are happy you found our apartments beautiful, staff friendly, and our location convenient to many of Birmingham’s best spots. Our goal is... always the contentment of our residents, and we are sorry our offers to accommodate your needs were not to your satisfaction. While downtown living offers wonderful access to our city’s most desired venues, it also comes with the sounds of city life. The police are headquartered across from our community, and willingly provide crime reports to anyone inquiring about the statistics in our area. We offer valet parking for the peace of mind of our residents, and our valets always attempt to keep the parking area free of refuse. We apologize for the disappointment you experienced, and would be happy to speak to you further about these matters if you drop by the office or call (205) 582-9555.
