The Willoughby Apartamentos

I lived here for over 30 years and had numerous issues with management. In short, they are overwhelmed, understaffed and simply don't care about providing good service.
The building is old and is in a constant state of repair requiring high condo fees. But management is lazy and has a terrible attitude. They are terribly slow to address problems and do so in a surly, rude manner. Avoid living here and definitely avoid buying here. Also, the condo association is extremely rude and close-minded.... I like the community and where it's located in Chevy Chase. Its a nice place place filled with seniors and some families. On its own, without some of the staff in the Friendship Boulevard section, its a wonderful place and area. I am 4 year resident there.

The building could use work and its very outdated as well. But that's not the issue. The issue for me is -
Friendship Boulevard section's staff are extremely disrespectful and the leadership council looks over their disrepectfulness. They... talk to you and sometimes shout at you to get their point across and do not know how to treat residents at all. Please Willoughby Leadership, change the folk there, especially the managers of the Friendship Boulevard section of the building. They are not representing the Willoughby right. Lee mas

I have lived at the Willoughby for two years and am happily leaving.

Pros:
- Rent is lower than the average DC prices and included utilities and parking spot.
- Rooftop pool
- Close to the metro

Cons:
- The building is old and not updated.
There are plumbing, heating, and cooling issues.
-The pipes clog often, and a fix requires a contractor.
-The heating and cooling in controlled by the building manager, they decide when to switch from cooling to heating. In my experience, they turn the... heating on too early.
- It's a water system so the air gets very wet in the summer, and very dry in the winter. Mold issues are difficult to deal with in the summer.
-The windows are single panned, so the outside temperature impacts the heating and cooling ability.
- The pool is pretty but burdened by too many policies and rules. No food or drink allowed in the pool, and you'll get death stares if you make noise.
- Rooftop patio closes early and no food or drink allowed.
- The gym is not updated, the equipment breaks often. There is very poor ventilation and smells.
- There's a large patio on the 4th/5th floor that is LOCKED, like the secret garden. No one is allowed, there's not reason.

This is a poorly run building, I wouldn't recommend any young professional live here. Lee mas

A wonderful view of the Friendship Village is just the first of many highlights you will notice at my apartment. Located along Friendship Heights metro, the Willoughby of Chevy Chase features a variety of shops and services only step away from the front door, as well as unique dining opportunities. I greatly enjoy the many amenities including luxurious plush carpeting, an underground garage, a fitness center, a pool, and modern effective security. If during seasons change, a space is an issue, a... convenient storage room is always available at my request. Also, a Village Center has movies, concerts, arts, classes. The Willoughby has everything. Such a homey place! Lee mas

You may know how hard it it is to feel safe in DC. I can honestly say that this neighborhood is one of the safest. You will ignore the potential "bummers" of your pad to gain peace of mind over your surroundings, or maybe not.......

My particular apartment feels makeshift. It really is up to the condo owner to make it or break it. I'm aware that this building features various layouts, though mine is a studio. My "kitchen" is literally in a closet. No counterspace to speak of, no dishwasherm... whioch makes washing dishes a real chore. the apartment itself is grimey, in need of repairs and a makeover. A few weeks ago, I had a deluge of water on my bathroom floor, due to the above tenant's overflowed tub. Disgusting. I was told the problem was "fixed", though I'm not convinced. Lee mas
