Long time renter who left - New management company is horrible
The property is fine for the area, though new pricing is steep and is likely to make many unable to afford it. Property manager Patricia is lovely to work with and made my 6 years there really easy. She stayed on when the new management company took over, but nothing below is directed at her.
I got a new job that required me to move over 100 miles away. My lease had two months left on it, but the new job could not wait just because my apartment was still leased. I gave notice as soon as... possible (they do not allow subletting either), and the apartment was rented before I even moved, with the new tenant scheduled to take possession 2 weeks after I turned in keys.
A few weeks later I received a bill for outstanding utilities (which I expected), as well as a "break lease" fee equal to one months rent. I emailed, disputing this charge since the apartment had already rented and they would only miss two weeks worth of rent. I was very disappointed in the chilling and unkind response that I received from the District Manager about my being charged exorbitant fees for “breaking a lease”, despite the new job 100 miles away. (I thank the complex manager, Patricia, for attempting to get the fees waived due to my excellent tenancy at Dublin Plaza.)
I will not be renting from any Harbor Group complexes in the future, nor will I recommend them to any colleagues, family, or friends. Apparently, when you live in a Harbor Group apartment, you should only look for work elsewhere when your lease is getting ready to come due. Otherwise, expect them to double dip and demand a “breaking the lease” fee of 1-2 months rent, or more, when you leave, even if they have rented your old unit out before you have even moved. For all of this madness, I am dropping my rating to 1 star.

Thank you for your feedback. We will share your kind words with Patricia and know they will mean the world to her.
We do apologize that the terms of your lease agreement became an inconvenience however we have a responsibility to enforce the... terms of the lease consistently. We understand ‘life happens’ and, for that reason, we offer a lease break option, which we are not obligated to do. The lease break option is a fantastic solution, for example, when 6 months into a 12 month lease; unfortunately, the timing of your move did not make the lease break option as beneficial as it often is.
We are disappointed that the enforcement of your lease terms otherwise sullied 6 years of comfort and satisfaction but we would like to thank you, sincerely, for making your home with us for 6 years.
