live here is you don’t like a/c in 96 degree heat
The air conditioning unit has been non-functional since the inception of the lease in January 2023. I have opened multiple maintenance requests over the past six months and was told they will only replace the 20+ year old unit once the system totally fails. The unit finally completely stopped working on June 19th, 2023. I have been forced to purchase my own portable air conditioner in order to have any sort of cooling in my home. There are only windows in the living room so I have been forced to... sleep on my couch for over a week now.
Their contractors finally came to install a new unit on June 26th, 2023. After watching the contractors mess with my personal belongings through my camera, I came home to still no air conditioning. I went to the leasing office but the leasing agent was not aware there was still an issue. A maintenance worker came into the office and told us the contractors messed up the wiring. Understandably frustrated not having central air conditioning in 90 degree plus Florida Summer due to your neglect and incompetence, I stated I will not be renewing my lease. The maintenance worker stated that when I own a home, I can hire whatever contractors and work at whatever pace I choose. He further stated he does not care if I do not renew my lease. I assured him MAA generally wants to retain tenants who pay on time and have zero community complaints as long as they can.
Lastly, I have contacted their corporate headquarters numerous times over the past week for some sort of relief but keep getting deferred back to the leasing office. It is clear to me the local leasing office nor corporate cares uphold their obligation to maintain a suitable living environment for their tenants.
