1950s building that shows its age and lacks adequate property management
Positives: high ceilings and good layout. Generally pleasant residents. New owners have spent some money on an upgraded laundry room and landscaping. These do not outweigh the many negatives. The build quality is poor. If you like or need quiet, keep looking. The walls and ceilings/floors lack adequate insulation so you will hear everything your neighbors are doing whilst everything you do is audible. Most people are considerate but there are a few who don’t care about their neighbors. You will... never forget you live ON Sunset Strip. You can’t escape music from the bars and clubs, people on the street, racing cars and bikes because of the 70 years’ old windows. Poor insulation also means you will bake in the summer months and freeze in winter. This is supposed to be a non-smoking property but expect to smell your neighbors’ weed and vaping as it seeps into your apartment. Why, you may ask, is thoughtless behavior not addressed? Well, there’s no residential manager, which contravenes the City’s requirements but the owners don’t care, delegating those responsibilities to an over-extended management company (Moss) who will take care of maintenance issues in their own time, if they remember, but that’s all. There’s none of the personal oversight we used to have with our last manager. It’s a shame because, with upgraded insulation and a good on-site manager, this would be a really good building. But I can’t recommend it as is.
